(all of my days i will sing your praises)

Reflections of BMT

When I enlisted, I appeared brave n ready to face what is to come. However deep inside, I was a scared young boy. Afraid of what is to come and stuff. I heard stories of what goes on inside from others, every Singaporean son as well as army daze. God also reassured me a lot regarding army. But nothin prepared me for the v first water parade we had. Not to mention the crazy fire drills which took place. I remember how I cried to God at nite when in bed. How will I get by these 4 mths if I m finding it so hard to get thru jus day 1 in bmt.

It was a 'welcome ceremony to raven coy'. I also rmb the crazy CPTs and 5BXs which we had to do. Holding those positions for almost forever. And of course the insane amount of shouting we had to go through. I will always end up spending the time of running n training mediating on Gods glory, word as well as creation. If he is so big n we r so small, what is our problems to him?

Looking towards the heavens and the stars, it washes up a sense of peace and tranquility over me as I jus ponder on how this great God who created the earth is watching over me. How I kno my future rest well in him.

With this, time passes fairly quickly week after week until e dreaded field camp week. I was feeling v unsettled n afraid because of what is going to happen. I decided to go to yvonne's church e day before field camp week so as to receive e spiritual support I need for the following week. Somehow I realised this was sth I can't really find in my church. The whole thing turned out well as I fellowshiped wif frenes I haven't met in awhile n some new frenes. Yvonne's encouragement helped alot n I found myself feeling ready for tmr. It may sux to go thru it but at e end of it, I will b glad I went thru it as it was a good training.

Field camp day. We did our 8km road march all e way to our field camp site. I was having a heart of expectancy as we start our march knowing tat it will b one heck of an experience. When we reached e field camp site however, all my perspectives and 'good feelings' changed totally.

Climbing up the hill was tougher than we expected and all of us were tired TTM when we reached the site. Hence there was slow movement when we were asked to form up. Lots of tekaning which resulted in me wonder how on earth am I going to get through the other 4 days if the first day is already like this…. Tekaning was practically free during field camp. Never had I been placed in a crazy situation where we had to high kneel every moment, tacticalise our movements which resulted in discomfort and sleep with my buddy which at times proved to be a challenge. It rained almost everyday and that worsen our morals and situation. I was super carnal during that period. I cursed and sweared everyday. And prayers became super self centered as well. I did not want to bother or care bout other things. All I know is to get my own things done and hope for the last day to quickly come. I realized how selfish I can be during that period. All my ugly side just came out at that point.

After field camp, I realized that my spiritual life got affected quite badly. I got so used to not reading the bible and mediating on God’s word that it continued on when I returned to coy-line. It took me a while for my condition to improve a little only. Then I had to go for SIT Test.

Sit Test was no better. I was still pretty carnal. Though it was not as bad as field camp, it was still carnal – no excuse. Was pretty tired during the first day because of the weather – didn’t really participate much. Second day was better though. The 12km road march there was quite tiring as well. Really wanted to fall out at the first 4km because of the heat. Everyone was beat totally. Thank God for the commanders. We had a long rest after the nxt 4km when we returned to coy-line. That helped us to regain our strength to carry on the march.

Didn’t manage to do a lot of witnessing. Only one proper one with one of my bunk mates when he asked questions during confinement week. Also talked abit bout relationship with God with my frene who is a Christian in my bunk as well. The rest was probably on and off convo only. Coming back to SIT test, had a spiritual crisis. Because my spiritual life only improved a little after field camp and after SIT test, it dropped even lower. I dropped much more than I improved.

Because of this, I seldom prayed or read the bible in a way which I should have done. Divine appointments were missed one after another. And the scary thing was that I was fine with it. I was so accustomed to it that change was so hard. Had to talk to Yvonne and Eliza about it before I could turn myself around. Yvonne told me that it is about the choices I make. We all have a choice. And we need to put in the effort if we want to turn ourselves around.

POP. Finally it is our 24km road march. It was a big jump from our 16km road march. I was struggling and psycho-ing myself mentally to keep walking no matter what (my feet was hurting like crazy). Had only abt 1 hr of rest and then parade. Am just glad its over.

(all of my days i will sing your praises)

Psalms 105:3-6
"...Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice! Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually! Remember the wondrous works that he has done, the miracles, and the judgments he uttered"

Remember....

That is the keyword of psalm 105. And it is also the key to continually living in God's presence every day of our lives. When everything seem dries, remember his promises, remember what he has done, remember how he has brought u thru.

SIT test is coming soon. And with that, the high key events will be gone and POP will soon come. Sometimes, I can feel myself slackin off spiritually because things are no longer as tough and I always ask myself why? Why isit only in tough times when we hold on to God the strongest and when things are good, we let him go so easily. Man is just so weak. We tend to be distracted in our pleasures and worldly comfort instead of focusing on God. Yvonne shared with me before of this thing about this evil in man which is always inclined to sin no matter what. That is why a constant renewal of our mind is necessary everyday.

When we look at the generations of Isarel, just only a few generations after the Red Sea incident and they have forgotten how the Lord brought them out of Egypt. That is why psalm 105 is written to remind them of what the Lord has done for them so that they continue to have that awe and wonder and reverence towards God.

Lord, you have brought me through army thus far. All the tekaning, field camp etc. When I look at the heavens, I remember that you are the creator of the universe. You alone form all this around us and you give man life and sustain him. And I remember the times when your favor was poured forth and I enjoyed your blessings and my heart sang for joy because of what you have done. Teach me O Lord to remember all this and to count my blessings. For all good things are from you and you alone. I ask that you deliver me from all temptations and lead me in the path of your righteousness. In Jesus name, Amen.

Booking in at 19 55.... coming soon =X
I will believe and cling on to your promises God regardless....
After SIT test, POP!!

(all of my days i will sing your praises)

Rah.... I am so fed up with my group mates. Yet I choose to remain silent and to trust God instead. Its not easy but I still have to trust God for it... Tell them what to do and they go and do other stuff then everytime procrastinate... I keep feeling that everything is their fault but yet I cant do anything cause they are still after all my group mates. And we succeed and fail as a group. That was my moto when I realised they were in my group. It is amazing how God gives me the strength and sustain me no matter what. Today is friday and next week will be panel review already. I know my group wont be ready at the end but I really want to do wad I can. And to this I really need the cooperation of my group mates which I feel I am not really receiving. God help me to focus and trust in you no matter what. In this t0ugh period I do not want to rely on my own sinful nature to run things for it will definitely succeed and you will not be with me. I ask that you will guide me and lead me on. I need your help!!!!!!

(all of my days i will sing your praises)

I bet no one will probably read this already... It has been quite sometime since I have blogged here.... I would say I passed the time of writing online.. Actually I find it a hassle.....

Firstly, when I write online, I tend to be distracted and stuff. Then when I want pen my thoughts down, I need a net and a com. If I write it down on a book, transferring it here seems very tiring....

Rite now for me, its a season for growth. Thats what God showed me e other time.. I not sure about now. Myanmar mission trip is coming up. There are just so many things to do.. So many spiritual battles to fight... And I can only say I seem to be loosing each one. I am starting to wonder if I am even cut out for this. Winning seems so difficult..... I kno its through Christ but to focus on him seems so difficult. Where was the time when it was so nice, so easy, where focusing on him and waiting for him on such a delight? :( Now there is distractions after distractions after disctractions.. Maybe I need a break.... A retreat.. But before the trip, I cant squeeze time, other than tomorrow morning.. And things will be such a rush as well.. And I am afraid that things wont work out well.. But I am even more afraid that God wont be with me.. If he is not with me, I wont want to go.... I want to be with him, with his presence... And now is such a dry period.... And it wears me down... I also do not know what to do.. I can only pray that as I seek him in my retreat tomorrow, he will be found....

Please Lord, come to me. I need you. I cant do without you. Life feels so empty when you are not there. Holy Spirit, fill me again. I need more of you. Remember your promises to me, do not cast me out of your presence but fill me to to do your work.

(all of my days i will sing your praises)

Psalm 39
For the director of music. For Jeduthun. A psalm of David.

1 I said, "I will watch my ways
and keep my tongue from sin;
I will put a muzzle on my mouth
as long as the wicked are in my presence."

2 But when I was silent and still,
not even saying anything good,
my anguish increased.

3 My heart grew hot within me,
and as I meditated, the fire burned;
then I spoke with my tongue:

4 "Show me, O LORD, my life's end
and the number of my days;
let me know how fleeting is my life.

5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth;
the span of my years is as nothing before you.
Each man's life is but a breath.
Selah

6 Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro:
He bustles about, but only in vain;
he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it.

7 "But now, Lord, what do I look for?
My hope is in you.

8 Save me from all my transgressions;
do not make me the scorn of fools.

9 I was silent; I would not open my mouth,
for you are the one who has done this.

10 Remove your scourge from me;
I am overcome by the blow of your hand.

11 You rebuke and discipline men for their sin;
you consume their wealth like a moth—
each man is but a breath.
Selah

12 "Hear my prayer, O LORD,
listen to my cry for help;
be not deaf to my weeping.
For I dwell with you as an alien,
a stranger, as all my fathers were.

13 Look away from me, that I may rejoice again
before I depart and am no more."
